THE IMPACT OF COVID 19 ON DYNAMICS OF CHANGE OF GEORGIA’S INVESTMENT ENVIRONMENT

Summary 

In recent years, foreign direct investments have been characterized by unstable dynamics in georgia. In 2017 FDI reached a record level, although in subsequent years it is has been characterized by decline. The coronavirus pandemic inflicted great economic damage to the world and, consequently, to Georgia. According to predictions of International organizations, the damage that was inflicted to the world economy by the spread of Covid-19, will also have a severe negative impact on foreign direct investment. The pandemic is widening competition in the international market of investments. The role of the government is growing in terms of attracting limited foreign investment resources to the country. The inflow of investments in Georgia is influenced by a stable political situation, protection of private property, fair trial, favorable tax regulations, cheap and skilled labor, stable macroeconomic environment, economic openness of the country, strategic location, low level of corruption, which in its turn make its investment environment more attractive. In this regard, the current situation in Georgia is not characterized by positive dynamics.
